Yusuf learns to give to charity

“Mama, Aziz told me that there are some children in the world who don’t have parents to look after them. Is this true? He also said some children can’t go to school because they can’t afford it and they can’t play with other children like we do,” Yusuf said to his mum.

“Yes Yusuf, we are so blessed but there are lots of children around the world who don’t have parents or anyone to look after them. And yes, lots of children can’t afford to go to school and some don’t even have money for food or clothes,” his mum told him.

“Allah tells us to help orphans (children who don’t have parents or children who don’t have a father) and to always help people in need. One of the ways we can do this is by giving them money which will help them to buy food and clothes.”

This gave Yusuf an idea. Every Monday, his parents gave him pocket money. He decided that every week he would save his pocket money and give it to charity to help someone that needed it more than him.

So that’s what he did. He collected his pocket money and put it in a jar in his room every Monday.

After a few months, the jar was almost full! Once the jar was full, Yusuf brought it downstairs and put it on the table.

“Mama, Papa, I’ve been saving my pocket money and I want to give this money to help other children go to school and be able to play like I do,” Yusuf told his parents.

Yusuf’s parents were in shock. They were so surprised that their son had been saving his pocket money and wanted to give it to charity. “Yusuf, we are so proud of you,” his dad said as he hugged him. “You have done an amazing thing and Allah will be very happy with you.”

A few weeks later, Yusuf’s dad brought him a letter. “Look Yusuf, here’s a letter from the boy you helped!”

Yusuf was so excited and started to read the letter. It said “Thank you Yusuf. I am going to school now and I like playing with all my friends. I hope one day we can play together. From Rizwan.” This made Yusuf and his parents very happy because every child should be able to go to school and enjoy their childhood.

Moral of the story:

There are lots of children around the world that can’t afford to go to school and lots of people that can’t afford food or clothes. We should always help them because we have been blessed with so much. Allah loves the people who help those in need.
