Hasnain learns to help others

Hasnain was walking home when he saw his elderly neighbour Mr Begum also walking home with lots of heavy shopping bags. He ran over, did his salaam and helped him carry the bags.

Mr Begum was really happy that Hasnain helped him as he was really struggling to carry them by himself. Mr Begum said thank you to Hasnain. When they reached Mr Begum’s house, Mr Begum said thank you to Hasnain once again.

“May Allah reward you for helping me. May Allah always keep you happy. May Allah make you successful in life. Ameen,” Mr Begum said with a smile on his face.

Hasnain was really happy to receive these prayers. He would have been walking home anyway, so it wasn’t a big deal for him to help Mr Begum with his shopping bags.

Hasnain went home to see that his Aunty Riffat was over so he told her what had happened.

“Wow. Look, you helped someone without thinking of what you could get in return. And you got lots of prayers. Even though to you it may have been a tiny thing, to Mr Begum it was a lot of help,” Aunty Riffat said.

“Don’t underestimate the power of doing a good deed Hasnain, no matter how small you may think it is. Allah sees all your good deeds and Allah loves those who help others,” she continued.

Hasnain felt really happy and carried on listening to his Aunty Riffat.

“And when you help people in need, do you know what that means? When you need help, Allah will help you In Shaa Allah,” Aunty Riffat told Hasnain. “I’m proud of you Hasnain, you’re a good boy.”

“Thank you, Aunty Riffat,” Hasnain said with a smile on his face. Helping Mr Begum was only a tiny thing for him, but he made his elderly neighbour happy and he also made Allah pleased with him. Hasnain always wanted Allah to be pleased with him.

From then on, Hasnain tried his best to always help others however he could, even if it was only in small ways, like moving a branch out of the way on the road so someone doesn’t trip. Hasnain knew even small acts such as this also helped others, as there is a Hadith that says the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that removing a harmful thing from the path is a charitable act.

Moral of the story

Always try and help others wherever you can. Allah loves those who help others. And when you help others, Allah will help you.
